"Most
people
would succeed in small things if they were not troubled with great
ambitions."- Henry

Big, big plans,
however positive
they are, can lead to equally large amounts of stress and worry.
Sometimes even procrastination or a slowdown. And behind it all are
those pesky questions bouncing around inside our heads: Can I really do
this? Will it really turn out how I want? [Insert your own favorite
here.] It happens to the best of us. And it's completely normal. We all
want great results, but who wants to focus their energy on something
that brings discomfort?
Well, perhaps a different approach is called for this time: breaking
that project down into 10 or so smaller steps.
When we eat a large satisfying meal, we don't swallow it whole. To do
so would be unthinkable. When it's most enjoyable, we eagerly cut a
piece, chew it, savor it, swallow, and after digest. Then on to the
next bite. It's so natural, and before we know it we're done...and
satisfied. Why not do the same with our most important endeavors? Each
successful step reinforces our ability to succeed.
Spiritual Growth reflections:
What large
ambition can I
identify in my life right now? (Planning a wedding? Finding new work?
Starting a business? Raising a child?)
How might
I break it down into smaller, manageable steps?
Can I
obtain more satisfaction and relax a little with this approach?
We often adopt
parenting skills - good and bad - from examples our parents set for us.
We can consciously choose to identify and release that which is not in
the best service of our children. Learn
