Inspiring Quotes "Considered"

Inspirational Thoughts about:

"The greatest compliment that was ever paid me was when one asked me what I thought, and attended to my answer."

___

In the best of conversations, there is a rich and healthy exchange of thoughts, ideas and information. Each member takes turns as speaker, and as listener. There is a mutually satisfying dynamic that exists. An intricate dance that can often be enjoyed over a cup of coffee, with a comforting meal, or even by a fireside.

The interesting thing about conversation is that its two halves, speaking and listening, are completely different skill sets. Ever notice how some people are great listeners, but don't say much? Or how about those who are quite proficient at speaking, and speaking, and speaking?

Quite often, it's the practice of listening that could use a little strengthening. Next time we're involved in a conversation we might take a moment to ask a question, and then consciously listen to the response. Really taking the time to enjoy it, and not jumping back in right away. Perhaps reflecting on: What is the person communicating emotionally? What is being said by his eyes? Why might her words be important to her? Notice the ease and grace the other person perceives from us when we truly listen. Notice the relaxation and freedom we feel when there's no pressure to quickly fill in with another forced thought.

The best thing about conscious listening is that it's quite contagious. Usually the more we practice it, the more others pick up on the energy and respond in kind. Now that's communication at its most fulfilling.

Spiritual Growth reflections:
  1. Who will my next conversations likely be with today?
  2. What interesting questions might I ask of them, and then put into practice conscious listening?
  3. What do I notice inside of me, and from them, when I do it?
