Inspirational Thoughts about:

"If wrinkles must be written upon our brows, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should not grow old."

___

Before we know it another year has passed. Our children are growing up. New generations are merging into society and making their unique mark in the world. New homes and neighborhoods have been constructed. Businesses have come and gone. Yes, life moves along at a good clip.

And what about us? Where do we fit in with all of the change going on around us? For some, it can be a little unnerving at times. Are the fine lines on our face or perhaps a stiff back all we have to look forward to?

Well, we can stop right there and take a slow, deep breath - because there's a lot more to living than that. Starting with the fact that we carry inside us the power of right-perspective. At times we might forget, until we're reminded: truly, the lens through which we view our world is our reality.

A man was asked what he thought of the local movie theatre. His reply was: "Not like it used to be. Those new electronic ticket booths are so impersonal. Popcorn and other concessions have really gone up in price. Kids are running around all over. Everyone distracted and talking on those cell phones. And I can't relate to half of the movies they play. Things are just getting worse around here."

Later, another man was asked what he thought of the same local movie theatre. He replied: "Not like it used to be. The lines are not as long now thanks to those electronic ticket booths. You can get your pass inside from a person, or punch a few buttons outside if you're in a hurry. Of course they've got the old classic snacks, but nowadays they've also got a new variety of concessions. Sure they cost a little more, but they're also larger so that I can share them with my wife...and even take some home afterward to remind me of the good time we had. As always, the excitement of all those kids is contagious. They're hustling and bustling around, in anticipation of the movie. Last week we swung by there on a whim. These new foreign films are quite interesting. We called a few friends from our cell phone and they joined us twenty minutes later. Great times at our local theatre."

The exact same theatre. Two completely different perspectives. The question is, which lens do we prefer? Who do we want to be today, and every day after?

Whether we're ten, fifteen, forty, or seventy years old, the truth is that we fit in just perfectly. At any age, we're a vital and indispensable part of society. We all make our unique connections with the universe. We touch the lives of others and take pleasure in learning from the environment around us.

And it's never too late to remember that though the color of our hair or the times may change, our hearts never do. The essence of who we are remains as young and as dynamic as ever. We are surrounded by spirit and delight if we just choose to see it. It all really is something to take notice of and be thankful for. Maybe those rose-colored glasses didn't quite get a fair shake.

Spiritual Growth reflections:
  1. How will I consciously choose to see my world for the rest of the today. What about the rest of my life?
  2. How many things can I enjoy and give thanks for?
  3. Can I take 10 seconds to remind myself of this right-perspective every morning when I wake up?
