Inspiring Quotes "Considered"

Inspirational Thoughts about:

"A good character is in all cases the fruit of personal exertion. It is not inherited from parents, it is not created by external advantages, it is no necessary appendage of birth, wealth, talents, or station; but it is the result of one's own endeavors." - J. Hawes

___

Character. Those qualities or features that distinguish an individual.

Whether we're aware of it or not, we speak words and take actions every day that define our character. The very reputation we have at home, in the workplace, or anywhere else in society is almost exclusively formed by our own doing. It's when we become conscious and begin to take accountability that we transform into wiser, more respected members of humanity.

Manifesting an honorable and remarkable character that shines in our world is a personal choice. Just because we might have been born with money, talents, or any other special advantage doesn't exempt us from the personal responsibility of working to be the best we can be.

So how can we do it? There are many practices that help. A simple one is to come up with and live by a personal motto or a guiding principle. (Some call it an affirmation.) Another is to read books and expand the mind with positive and fulfilling forms of thinking.

Creating a personal motto takes less than a minute, and we can change it or add to it at any time. First, we ask ourselves what qualities we really respect in others. (Say for example, a sense of calmness in most situations.)

Second, we choose that feature which resonates and write down our personal motto. (It can be as simple as: "I embody calmness in my thinking and actions. In times of stress, I focus my calmness. I release any tension by using that energy to look for solutions. Calmness is a key to my peace and happiness. And it honors those around me.") Our motto can be any length - even a single sentence.

Third, we contemplate our personal motto from time to time. This also takes less than a minute. It might be in the morning after breakfast, before beginning the day. Or during our lunch break as a quick reminder. Perhaps in the evening before going to sleep. We might even hang a note on the bulletin board. The idea is that we tune in and remind ourselves of our truth. Repetition or reinforcement is the key to learning and manifesting. Before we know it, it becomes second nature.

Fourth, we recognize, here and there, how our actions and words embody those qualities we've consciously adopted. How did we act at our last meeting or during our earlier conversation? (Did we hold that sense of calmness?) If not, it's really no problem. We continue our practice, nice and steady, one moment at a time. Doing our best.

In the end, however we choose to grow and maintain our good character, we and all those around us will be the better for it. Best of all, the law of attraction sweetens our return by bringing around friends, family, and experiences of like-mind. Happy people tend to spend time with other happy people. It works the same with confidence, honesty, or any other redeeming characteristic. Now that's what we can call a real win-win scenario and something to look forward to.

Spiritual Growth reflections:
  1. What respectable qualities would I like to own?
  2. How will I remain conscious of them, and put them into practice?
